Not-cho Cheeze!

People often ask me (they never do, I just wish they would), “But how do I know what you’re doing is magic, Arch Mage?” and I’d reply in my biggest, booming-ist “Merlin” voice, “Because I can make nacho “cheese” out of vegetables!” Continue reading

Simpler Stuffed Peppers

Where I live, good peppers are harder to come by than eye of newt! They’re never in good shape and always overpriced, so I’ve started taking advantage of the fact that no one around here knows what to do with poblano peppers. Continue reading

Roasted Sweet Potato Rito Bowls

It’s a little-known fact that there are licences and regulations for magic, all over the world. And not all of them operate as smoothly as the Ministry of Magic! Out here in the mountains, the Magic Bureau is so small and understaffed, that if it’s time for your annual renewal, you have to bring a lunch! Continue reading

Deconstructed Lasagna

A knowledge of the fundamentals of spells and magic has given me a lot of confidence. I know if I’m in a new, uncomfortable situation, I can go back to basics and at the very least, set the whole place on fire! Lasagna Soup

Spellcraft is all about building on what you already know, and that skill totally carries over to cooking! I’ve seen several different recipes for lasagna soup in my travels. It always seemed like a brilliant idea, but each recipe was missing something. I knew I needed to try it! In addition to craving more of those thick, wonderful noodles (they really are pretty magical), I wanted a soup that was as filling and comforting as lasagna- preferably without having to cast any complicated spells of fullness or having to add my magic beans- I’ve been saving those! Continue reading

Super Sauce Bowl

Most people who go to the mage’s college don’t have a moment to spare from research, much less the time and mental energy required to regularly meal plan before shopping. While I am pretty good at planning meals, sometimes things go awry. There could be a delicious looking veggie on sale, or a grain I’ve been meaning to try, and suddenly I’m in unknown territory. I have to try to figure out something to fling together from what I have on hand without having to search for a whole new recipe! Continue reading

Peanut Butter! Fried Rice

So in a previous post I told a story about how I hated fried rice, but how one magical ingredient changed all that, and now fried rice and I can set aside our differences and live in harmony. Well, there was a catch. The rice in that recipe wasn’t technically fried. Continue reading
