I’m particularly proud of a bit of magic I was able to do this past week. Over the weekend I had gone on a broomstick tour, which was definitely fun, but put me behind on household errands and chores. I wound up improvising every meal, using whatever I had sitting around. By Friday, my creativity was about at its end, as was my stash of ingredients! In terms of fresh produce, all I had was the tail end of a bunch of collard greens, a few stray carrots, and a badly bruised apple. Continue reading
Apple Pie Quinoa Porridge
Weekends are magical in their own right. Without the responsibilities of work or studies, they have a much more relaxed pace. Weekday mornings, I rely heavily on the pre-programmed setting on my coffee pot and eat overnight oatmeal that I make the night (or multiple nights) before. Simplicity is key when time is of the essence, but on weekends, I take the time to grind coffee beans and actually cook breakfast! That said, I still don’t always have tons of patience in the morning before coffee. Continue reading
No-Noodle Lasagna
I have to confess a couple of things that I haven’t quite figured out how to replace since becoming a mage. First, I haven’t found a spell more situationally effective than a well-timed threat. But that’s probably true for most professions. Beyond that: ricotta cheese. I can’t do without it. Continue reading
Not-cho Cheeze!
People often ask me (they never do, I just wish they would), “But how do I know what you’re doing is magic, Arch Mage?” and I’d reply in my biggest, booming-ist “Merlin” voice, “Because I can make nacho “cheese” out of vegetables!” Continue reading
Simpler Stuffed Peppers
Where I live, good peppers are harder to come by than eye of newt! They’re never in good shape and always overpriced, so I’ve started taking advantage of the fact that no one around here knows what to do with poblano peppers. Continue reading
Roasted Sweet Potato Rito Bowls
It’s a little-known fact that there are licences and regulations for magic, all over the world. And not all of them operate as smoothly as the Ministry of Magic! Out here in the mountains, the Magic Bureau is so small and understaffed, that if it’s time for your annual renewal, you have to bring a lunch! Continue reading
Lasagna Soup
Spellcraft is all about building on what you already know, and that skill totally carries over to cooking! I’ve seen several different recipes for lasagna soup in my travels. It always seemed like a brilliant idea, but each recipe was missing something. I knew I needed to try it! In addition to craving more of those thick, wonderful noodles (they really are pretty magical), I wanted a soup that was as filling and comforting as lasagna- preferably without having to cast any complicated spells of fullness or having to add my magic beans- I’ve been saving those! Continue reading
